Online piracy is responsible for a significant portion of network traffic on the Internet, but just how much bandwidth is consumed by illegal file sharing? Various studies over the past year from network monitoring companies have given us a clearer picture of overall Internet usage and traffic patterns, but the exact amount of traffic attributable to infringing content has been difficult to estimate. However, a new study from Envisional (full report, executive summary), an Internet intelligence company, synthesizes the findings of these recent studies with the latest research on online piracy to estimate the amount of bandwidth consumed by the distribution of infringing content on the Internet. At this event, Dr. David Price, Head of Piracy Intelligence at Envisional will discuss the findings of this new research study. Following his presentation, ITIF will host a panel of experts to discuss the results.
