Testimony Before House Oversight IT Subcommittee on Ensuring America Remains the World Leader in Technology and Innovation

In testimony before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on Information Technology, ITIF President Rob Atkinson stated that China’s innovation mercantilism poses a threat to U.S. leadership in technology and innovation. To help roll back Chinese innovation mercantilism, the United States should be doing much more both on its own and with like-minded allies to develop a coordinated agenda, creating pressure and making it more likely that China feels like it has no choice but to play more by the rules.

Taking firm and strategic action against Chinese predatory, mercantilist practices is long overdue. Whether such actions can be successful is an open question. But one thing is clear: not taking action will make it much easier for the Chinese government to achieve their goal of dominating global technology industries.
