ITIF Named Top Two Science and Tech Think Tank in the World

January 22, 2015

WASHINGTON – (January 22, 2015) The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) was ranked as the second best science and technology think tank in the world in the 2014 The Global Go To Think Tanks Report, a comprehensive survey of global think tanks and research centers conducted by the University of Pennsylvania (Penn). This was the third year in a row that ITIF was ranked in the top five in the science and tech category. The foundation was also listed as the 49th best think tank overall in the United States.

“It is a great honor to be recognized in this important analysis of policy institutes and their effectiveness globally,” says Robert Atkinson, President and Founder of ITIF. “It is particularly gratifying given that a central component of the assessment is made up of reviews by policymakers, academics and topic experts from a host of nations. We are extremely proud that our peers hold us in such high regard.”

The report, produced by Penn’s Think Tanks and Civil Societies program, seeks to assess the role think tanks play in governments and civil societies around the globe and identify centers of excellence in public policy research. It presents a ranking of the best think tanks in the world and also categorizes institutions by topic area, region and special achievement. ITIF finished third in the Science and Technology category behind Germany’s Max Plank Institute and MIT’s Science, Technology and Society program.

ITIF was founded in 2006 and seeks to document how advances in technology are creating new opportunities to boost economic growth and design effective public policies to take advantage of these trends. The foundation focuses on a wide array of technology issues including: competitiveness, telecommunications, privacy and cybersecurity, the Internet economy, manufacturing and trade. It also houses two affiliated research centers, the Center for Data Innovation and the Center for Clean Energy Innovation.

“Nearing our ten-year anniversary, ITIF continues to grow and evolve to meet the ever changing technology policy environment and provide cutting edge research and policy formulation nationally and internationally,” Atkinson adds.
