Wednesday, December 16, 201509:00 AM to 10:30 AM EST
2237 Rayburn House Office Building45 Independence Avenue SWWashington District Of Columbia, 20515

Event Summary

Special guests Representatives Suzan DelBene (D-WA) and Darrell Issa (R-CA), co-chairs of the Congressional Internet of Things Caucus, will deliver keynote remarks.

The Internet of Things—the network of ordinary objects embedded with Internet-connected sensors that can capture, transmit, and receive data—will create up to $11 trillion per year of economic value globally by 2025 and will impact nearly every aspect of the economy and society. More than just the next wave of consumer gadgetry, the Internet of Things is transforming industries like healthcare and agriculture, while also creating safer and more efficient cities.

But realizing such benefits is not without its challenges. Just as the Internet’s success depended on smart policies and government support, so too will the future value of the Internet of Things hinge on the actions of policymakers. As the Internet of Things begins to take off, countries around the world have arrived at a critical juncture. Their response will determine the extent to which the Internet of Things becomes an engine for innovation and delivers social and economic value.

Join the Center for Data Innovation for a panel discussion and release of a new report examining why a comprehensive national strategy that addresses the numerous obstacles facing the Internet of Things is necessary to ensure the United States can successfully secure the benefits of this promising technology.
