All About the Fundamentals: Three Misconceptions of the Heritage Foundation’s Deficit/Energy Proposal

May 4, 2011
| Reports

The Heritage Foundation proposed a near dismantling of the Department of Energy in the name of budget deficit reduction. But their proposal includes numerous inconsistencies and inaccuracies used to justify eliminating programs vital to the United States energy innovation system. In response, ITIF, along with the Breakthrough Institute (BTI) and Americans for Energy Leadership (AEL), detail the three fundamental fallacies of Heritage's proposal in this paper, "All About the Fundamentals: Three Misconceptions of the Heritage Foundation's Deficit/Energy Proposal." In addition, ITIF, BTI, and AEL provide a detailed point-by-point fact sheet accounting the numerous errors and misunderstandings found in Heritage's proposal. Both reports represent a cohesive argument for the importance of supporting clean energy innovation as a means to reduce the budget deficit, secure our energy future, and reduce carbon emissions.
