WASHINGTON (March 5, 2014) - Robert Atkinson, President of the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF), has been appointed by the U.S. Department of State to its Advisory Committee on International Communications and Information Policy (ACICIP). The committee advises the State Department on policy issues related to information and communication services, technology research and development, and foreign industrial and regulatory policy. Atkinson has been appointed to a two-year term.
"As the Internet and the digital economy have become more prevalent globally, a host of international issues have come to the fore regarding communications policy, copyright and regulatory policy, digital trade and information security," Atkinson says. "I am honored to be able assist the State Department in navigating these challenges and promoting policies that can enhance innovation and economic growth."
The ACICIP is comprised of senior-level officials of a broad range of companies and institutions with expertise in communications and information technology and services. It serves as the central expert advisory body to the United States Coordinator for International Communications & Information Policy, while also providing advice and support to the Secretary of State and the Executive Office of the President.
