Steven J. (Steve) Betza is the Corporate Director of Advanced Manufacturing & Development for Lockheed Martin in Bethesda, MD. In this capacity, Steve leads Lockheed Martin’s partnerships with the National Network for Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI) and applied research in additive manufacturing, advanced materials, digital manufacturing, and next generation electronics for a corporation with nearly 60,000 scientists and engineers and $45B in annual sales.
During a 31-year career with IBM and Lockheed Martin, Steve has held progressively responsible positions in Engineering, Program Management, and Information Technology. At Lockheed Martin, he has served as Engineering Director for a 400-person Electronic Products organization, Program Director for a $120M Business Area, and CIO for a $2.5B group of Lockheed Martin companies.
Steve currently serves on the Boards of Directors of National Science Olympiad (IL) and the IPC Electronics Industry Association (IL), the Board of Trustees for the Guthrie Healthcare System (PA), and chairs the Advisory Board for the T.J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science at Binghamton University (NY). Since 2005, he has periodically served as an advisor to the DoD, the Defense Science Board, NSA, and U.S. Congress on issues related to trusted manufacturing and the U.S. industrial base.
Steve earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering with Highest Distinction from Penn State in 1982, was named a PSU Outstanding Engineering Alumnus in 2002, and a PSU Tau Beta Pi Eminent Engineer in 2013. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), the American Society for Quality (ASQ), and the Ethics and Compliance Officer Association (ECOA). Steve and his wife, Barbara, make their home in the town of Vestal, NY.
