Samuel Thernstrom is senior climate policy advisor to the Clean Air Task Force, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the atmosphere through research, advocacy, collaboration, and innovation; at CATF, his work is focused on clean-energy innovation (particularly at the Department of Defense), next-generation nuclear power, carbon capture and sequestration, and geoengineering.

Previously, Thernstrom served as director of communications at the White House Council on Environmental Quality (2001-03), and was a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research (2003-2010), where he co-directed a project exploring the public policy implications of geoengineering. He was also senior policy advisor to the Bipartisan Policy Commission’s Geoengineering Task Force in 2010-11. His writing has been published in the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, The New Republic, The American, and nytimes.com, and he has appeared on ABC News, BBC News, CNN, Fox News, NPR, The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer on PBS, and the Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
