Marc A. Rodwin is Professor of Law at Suffolk University Law School. He is the author of Conflicts of Interest and the Future of Medicine: the United States, France and Japan (Oxford, 2011) and Medicine, Money and Morals: Physicians' Conflicts of Interest (Oxford, 1993). He has published in law, medicine, and policy journals on the relation between law, ethics, and markets in health care. His other research is on 1) health care consumer voice and representation; 2) the pharmaceutical industry; 3) accountability in managed care; 4) consumer protection in health care; 5) medical malpractice; 6) ownership of patient health data.

Rodwin has testified before Congress and state legislatures and served on government commissions and advisory boards, including the Food and Drug Administration and the Indiana Commission on Hospital Antitrust. He has participated in meetings sponsored by the National Academy of Sciences-Institute of Medicine, the American Bar Association, The Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, the American College of Physicians, the Health Care Financial Management Association, the National Health Policy Forum and other groups. Rodwin has assisted the Consumer Federation of America, Public Citizen Health Research Group, and other health care consumer groups. He has worked as a consultant or expert witness on policy related litigation involving fiduciary law, physicians’ conflicts of interests, financial incentives, and deceptive trade practices in numerous lawsuits.

He serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Health Politics, Policy and Law, the American Journal of Law and Medicine, and Health Expectations: An International Journal of Participation in Health Care. He has published in The New England Journal of Medicine, Health Affairs, Journal of Health Politics, Policy and Law, The Milbank Quarterly, The American Prospect, Ethics and Behavior, The American Journal of Law and Medicine, the National Health Law Journal, and several other law reviews. From 1993 to 1998 he served as the chair of the forum on health law, then as the program chair of the American Public Health Association.

Previously, Rodwin was Associate Professor at Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs and a lecturer at Tufts and Brandeis Universities and practiced law. Rodwin has been a Merck Visiting Health Law Scholar at Seton Hall Law School, and a visiting research scholar at Tokyo University Law School and Chuo University Law School in Japan, and the Centre Nationale de Recherche Scientifique in Rennes, France, and a Fellow at the I.U. Law School Center for Law and Health. He has been a visiting professor at University of Rennes Law School and University of Paris-V Medical School, Institut d’Etudes des Politiques de Santé. He received his Ph.D. from Brandeis University in Health and Social Welfare Policy, his J.D. from the University of Virginia Law School, his B.A., M.A. from Oxford University in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, and his B.A. from Brown University in Analytical Method and Policy.

Rodwin has been a recipient of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Investigator Award, Fulbright Fellowship, German Marshal Fund Fellowship, Social Science Research Council Abe Fellowship, a Pew health policy fellowship and other grants. Rodwin has given talks at professional meetings and universities in the U.S., Japan, Canada, Britain, and France, including: Yale University, Stanford University, University of Chicago, University of California, M.I.T., University of Virginia, and the RAND Corporation.<
