Event Summary

ITIF hosts the one-year anniversary of the Center for Copyright Information’s Copyright Alert System (CAS). The CAS is a voluntary collaboration between leading Internet service providers (ISPs) and copyright holders designed to reduce digital copyright infringement through a progressive series of six graduated notifications. The system aims to educate consumers when unlawful activity appears to be occurring on their Internet accounts and provide them information to avoid such infringement.

After operating for over a year, the Center for Copyright Information has generated a substantial amount of data as to the overall impact of the program. On May 28, ITIF joins a group of CAS participants and advisors to discuss the progress the system has made and the extent to which this sort of voluntary collaboration can reduce digital piracy.
