Reporting on the FCC’s move to regulate broadband Internet service under Title II of the Communications Act, CQ Rollcall quoted ITIF’s Joe Kane explaining why classifying Internet service as a telecom service is an outdated approach. 

In a story on the newly released American Privacy Rights Act (APRA), Axios noted quoted ITIF policy analyst Ashley Johnson, who expressed concerns that the new bill’s private right of action is much broader than previous bills.

The South China Morning Post’s weekend section Young Post covered a recent ITIF report on innovation in China’s robotics industry, noting that China has adopted 12-and-a-half times more robots than would be expected based on the size of its manufacturing workforce. And while China does not yet appear to be leading in robotic innovation, it is only a matter of time before it catches up.

Inside Cybersecurity covered an ITIF report calling for cooperation on Internet of Things cybersecurity labeling between the United States and the European Union, as the FCC works to roll out a program for wireless consumer IoT products.

As Inside AI reports, the advocacy group Public Knowlege has called for developers of closed-foundation AI models to bear greater responsibilities than “open” AI developers, but ITIF’s Center for Data Innovation counters that NTIA should take an “agnostic” approach.

Quoted in FedScoop, the Center for Data Innovation’s Hodan Omaar said the focus on regulatory frameworks throughout NTIA’s report “will not help the United States become a leading global adopter of AI.”

Speaking to Roll Call, ITIF’s Daniel Castro noted Congress wants “these platforms to be gatekeepers only sometimes, when they want them to potentially block TikTok. But they don’t want them to be gatekeepers when they are doing things to ensure the privacy, security and integrity of their platforms... You can’t have it both ways.”

The South China Morning Post quoted Rob Atkinson in a story on US and Chinese patents: “There’s no question the Chinese patent filings do reflect underlying technological capabilities. We’d be foolish or ostrich-like if we denied that."

The BBC wrote about a letter regarding the amendments to the Investigatory Powers Act in the UK that was co-signed by ITIF.
